“Winning the university program allowed me to connect with innovators at ABC Silicon Valley and explore how I can make a real impact.”
Can you introduce yourself? Tell us your name, where you’re from, and a bit about your background.
My name is Mariana. I’m 22 years old and from Portugal. I’m currently studying Pharmaceutical Sciences, and this is my first year here!
You’re studying Pharmaceutical Sciences – where does your interest in entrepreneurship come from?
I realized that scientific knowledge alone isn’t enough to make a real-world impact. I want to combine my pharmaceutical expertise with entrepreneurship to develop innovative solutions that can truly make a difference.
Can you tell us about the university program that led you to ABC Silicon Valley?
It was part of a program called Académica Start UC. We had to develop entrepreneurship projects and organize events throughout the year. My project, Nexus, aimed to create a bridge between students and entrepreneurs, fostering creativity and innovation. I won the competition, and that’s how I got the chance to join ABC Silicon Valley.
What’s your favorite thing about ABC?
I love the intensity and structure of the program. There’s a great balance between classes and company visits. ABC helps me see partnerships and innovation differently, rethink mindsets, and understand how I can create real impact in society.
